Our Sweet Pa-Paw

Please pray for Pa-Paw's present health issues. For one, his pacemaker had to be "bumped" this week, as his heart was not outputting like it should. Once again, we are reminded of the blessing of Pa-Paw's presence yet still with us. I was very concerned when Nathan and I went to help my parents prepare for Christmas and clean up the sheds. My Dad didn't look very well and even walked with so much effort...and in so much pain. Pray for wisdom for the doctor as he looks for the cause of all the pain, neck stiffness, and fatigue. It was a blessing to be able to help them out, but also cause for reflection on their health. How we need to pray for them each and every day and thank the Lord they are still here... The cardiologist had told me a year ago that Dad is on "borrowed time" that he was able to help give to Dad. Please take every opportunity to write to him, call him, and spend time as you can just "being" with Dad. He loves his family so much and has sacrificed for all of us. Reflect on your relationship with this sweet man and pray for him as he ages, as well as Mother, too.

Love to you all~
Kathy

Thank you!

Thank you so very much for all the presents from the family. They are all wonderful! I love them, but love and miss you so much more...
Can you believe it!? I'm 5 now!

Mommy and daddy made my birthday so special! Mommy made breakfast and invited daddy to join us. It was special way to start my spooktacular day.

Then, we had the party. It was so much fun! It took me forever to decide on the cake that I wanted. I really wanted Kacie's cakebites, but finally decided on an ice cream cake from Coldstone. Mommy bought the silly sparkler candles. They turned back on whenever I thought they were blown out! Shayla thought it was really funny... and, daddy pointed it out.

But, one of the funniest moments of my birthday was when Bumblebee Me was stinging my dad! Everyone was laughing a lot.

It was definitely a fun birthday!
Thanks again for my birthday presents.
I love and miss you so very much! -JR

Wild West Relay

As ya'll know, Shannon and I spent the weekend together in Colorado. The timing of the trip was perfect for both of us.

Here is the course. And, yes, we signed up to RUN from Fort Collins to Steamboat Springs for FUN. :)

We (The Dangerous Dozen: a team comprised of 12 runners from 12 dfferent states, kinda, well, maybe 8 different states?!) ran 200 miles within approximately 33hours. Truly an amazing & awesome ADVENTURE!

After a lack of sleep, a lot of water, no showers, and random assortments of encouragement, we did it! We crossed the finish line. We had a blast!

We're looking forward to our next relay...April. Ragnar.
We rested, showered, and celebrated. :)

(I will forever be thankful to Shannon for inviting me to participate in this event for a multitude of reasons.) -cw

Love ya'll

Love one another deeply from the heart." 1Peter 1:22

I have been thinking of the right words to express my love for ya'll. That passage refers to it best. I love ya'll deeply from my heart.

On a lighter note, I'm excited to see Shannon next week in Colorado. It'll be a great memory for us to share with ya'll.

YOU mean the world to me. May God bless ya. -cw

Prayer....

What blessings have been answered as we watch Tristan grow into a great, young, Christian man. He has matured so as many of you have seen his last few visits. He has so many questions about life I just ask for your prayers that I answer them with integrity, honesty and most of all, like a Christian father should. I can only imagine how different/same life questions will be coming from our precious daughter, Jessica.

I also ask for your prayers as I struggle being that Christian husband/father/employee. I ask that you pray for my guidance and direction as I have struggled with this for some time. The power of prayer is amazing and I have tried for so long now to do it myself instead of putting it in GOD's hands.

If you do nothing else, please do this for me!!! -Nathan

Happy Anniversary

...to Sue and Kenny, celebrating 6 blessed years!

...to Mike and Natalie, celebrating their first!

May you be blessed with many more!

Charleston lately...

How easily time gets away. I can't believe it's been over a month since my last post! Here's a quick recap on how summer 2009 has kicked off here in Charleston...well, and Portland too! I've really taken to experimenting with various pizza recipes lately - Fridays are pizza nights usually!

While in town for my dad's birthday, and to check in on Papaw Graf and Mamaw Phillips since their recent surgeries, I was so happy to see Mamaw doing so well!

Since we would be out of town for Matt's birthday, I cooked him an early birthday meal. I got his mother's meat loaf recipe and attempted my first ever meat loaf. Much to my surprise, he said it was spot-on! For my "meat" I made an eggplant bake, then for sides I grilled some white cheddar corn, and made oven roasted rosemary potatoes. We enjoyed this meal on the patio before heading out for an afternoon at the beach, followed by a Sister Hazel show!

I finished the triathlon training program with one of my friends and it was a great experience, as well as thrilling sense of accomplishment in the end. Here we are at the "starting line" gearing up for the swim, bike, then run. We celebrated our big finish with her husband at a local pizza shop - what a happy ending, right?

I had the honor of representing my company and local chapter of UPA at the annual UPA Conference in Portland, Oregon last week. A colleague and I drafted a proposal for a small presentation and it got accepted; however, only one of us would be able to attend due to budget constraints. Here's what my forum looked like - great experience!

Of course we had to take advantage of the idyllic Portland setting and plan a weekend getaway! Matt's actual birthday fell on the last day of my conference, so he flew up to join me in Oregon. We celebrated with one of our favorite things, which is wine tasting. What we tend to enjoy more than the tasting itself is visiting the vineyards and wineries, learning about how each does theirs differently, the unique flavors that go into each sip, and the scenic drives! The weather was superb - didn't creep out of the 70's once! We also have a habit of finding really good eateries - who knew McMinnville, Oregon had delicious Spanish tapas? Here's a slideshow of our perfect birthday celebration weekend!

That's all for now, but here's what I'll be looking forward to in the coming weeks!

  • Kacie, Marc, and Matt in town for the 4th of July

  • Training for some running events

  • Likely some more work travel...possibly Santa Barbara, California

  • Meeting up with Cynthia, (and hopefuly Nathan and Jessica too!) for the Wild West Relay in Colorado!

Happy Birthday, Marc!

Hope you had a blessed day on the 26th!

Catching up and Looking forward

Is it me? Or does it seem like April and May have flown by?! And, June is quickly approaching?!

Well, I ran in the SLC Marathon on April 18th. That same evening, Nathan came home from a REV game with an injury to his ACL. So, the date is a bittersweet memory. I was elated with my time and Nathan was disappointed that his football season ended abruptly.

However, an injury does NOT keep the Washingtons away from football. We have faithfully attended the REV games near & far. Here are a few shots of the REV at Blitz in St. George, UT on Mother's Day weekend.

Hmmm... yes, that "wild child" in the multi-colored polka dots was definitely "sugared-up" and kept herself entertained with everything but the football game. She did, however, notice the full moon and the scoreboard at the end...

Since the REV game was 4.5 hours away in WARM & SUNNY summer-like weather, we decided to incorporate Mother's Day into the weekend. My mom came along with us for the trip. We had a blast! On our way home, we had lunch and visited Zion's National Park.

The pictures of Zion capture a 10th of its beauty. Zion is an appropriate name for this beautiful spot in the world. As the sun moves across the red rock, the picture God paints is truly amazing!

Upon returning home, Nathan had his ACL surgery. He is recovering well. As a matter of fact, he was able to bend his knee 96 degrees at physical therapy. We pray that his progress remains this great!

Now, we are looking forward to June. Not only will Kathy, Chuck and TRISTAN visit us in Park City, but also JR will return to Dallas with them to visit ya'll. YEAH! :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Brotherly Love

So work has had me on the road quite a bit lately. In the past month, I've been to Charlotte twice, Atlanta, and Philadelphia. I'm working specifically with nonprofits who fit our Arts & Cultural vertical - so I'm going to museums and arboretums and learning how they operate to ensure our products will meet their needs. It's pretty fun!

Our final trip for the first phase of these visits concluded in Philadelphia, which is where the pictures in the slideshow are from. My teammate and I ran the steps like Rocky in front of the Museum of Art (a client of ours), we stayed downtown, and really got a feel for the city which we loved!

Matt was able to come up for the weekend, and we did everything any Philly tourist would possibly try to do! First I surprised him with a visit to one of our other clients, The Rosenbach Museum, which is situated in a quaint neighborhood downtown, former house of the Rosenbachs. The exhibit just happened to be Maurice Sendak, likely most well-known for his illustrations in Where the Wild Things Are. Fun!

Afterward, we walked the entire city, visiting Reading Terminal Market, City Hall, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross house, Ben Franklin's grave, The Christ Church, Love Park, Chinatown, etc. You get the idea. Enjoy the pictures!

I look forward to coming to Dallas next weekend!

Until then,
Shannon

Prayers for Mamaw

Dearest Mamaw,

Feel God's peace. Surrounding you, comforting you, taking great care. Feel God's love. Family, prayers, holding you up. You are not alone. We are with you. God is with you. Such simple words to say, but we do hope you feel God's peace and love as you go into surgery which, God willing, will ease your pain and bring new life to your sweet body.

We love you and are praying for you today and each day...

Easter Weekend Run-down

To save myself a $1500 flight home for Easter, I decided to stay and enjoy my first Easter here in Charleston. Matt was able to join me; he flew in Thursday evening and we had a great weekend.
A few highlights included: My Product Development division had a box where we enjoyed a Riverdogs game (we won!); Spring shopping; a do-it-yourself doggy bath at the neighborhood doggy boutique; my church's community-wide Easter Celebration on the riverbank at Boone Hall Plantation, and brunch with Tim, Donna, and Donna's parents.

We were fortunate to have beautiful weather this weekend, but as always, our visit flew by.

In other news, here's a little insight to life in Charleston these days:
  • I've started traveling with work a bit to work with museums who are interested in our software; in April I'll be visitng Atlanta, Charlotte, and Philadelphia (where I'll get to take in a mini-vacay)
  • I'll begin triathlon training at the end of April and competing in my first sprint triathlon in June - I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited as this is something I've always said I wanted to do
  • My division at work has started a non-competitive sand volleyball group which plays here on Daniel Island; I started participating when I can!
  • I completed Alpha at the church I've been visiting and have made some great connections with the small group we established during the course; I will continue to find ways to be involved there
  • I'll represent my company by presenting at the UPA Conference in June - again something I'm a bit nervous about, but I get to hang out in beautiful Portland, Oregon for the week :)
  • Matt and I appreciate prayerful wishes; it seems God is working in a way we didn't expect and could never have planned...but seems to be an enlightening path! Would we expect any less from God?

Oh! And as I type, Matt's plane made an emergency "precautionary" landing in Jackson, Mississippi just now. Apparently the air speed and altitude indicators went haywire with their readings. All is well, and they are on standby until further notice. Gotta love travel woes..

UPDATE: The plane was collecting ice inside the cockpit, causing control failure. They were unable to fix the plane this evening, and put the passengers up in a Ramada Inn there in Jackson. Matt is in good spirits and just thankful to be ok after such a turbulent landing.

Love and miss you all - I'll report back soon!
Shannon

Eggstravaganza

Well, we are starting to see signs of spring...and some lingering snow... and the joy of EASTER keeps us looking forward. We hosted an EGGSTRAVAGANZA this weekend. Nathan read The Easter Story. We enjoyed our friends, the sunshine and lots of food. It was soooo much fun! I don't know who had more fun the parents or the children.

Back to Reality

Well, it's a sunny but sad day in Charleston as Spring Break has come to an end. So many good times had and memories made, however! It's safe to say mom will be missed by more than just me around here...Yesterday, Day 5: Mom learned to blog, we watched '27 Dresses' (I knew mom would love it since we love chick flics), then got ready for a night on the town. We walked Meeting and King, did some window shopping, then stopped for more Mexican food since we can't get enough! We stopped for some Starbucks, talked on the phone with Mamaw and Papaw, then trekked a few blocks to see an improv comedy show!

It was a blast - mom had never been to an improv show, and I had yet to see this troupe here in Charleston, so it was a new experience for us both! It was nice to end such a fun week with 2 hours of non-stop laughs!

Day 6: We woke up and headed for Sullivan's Island, just a quick drive up the highway, out to the beach! We took Luther to run and play, as well as enjoy the view, before heading to lunch and then the airport (boooo). We love you and had a great week with you, mom! Thanks for spending Spring Break with us!

The Walk!

Hi, again, folks, day 4 was fun-filled as well! We finally walked, Shannon jogged, of course, the Ravenel Bridge of Charleston. The incline was literally BREATHTAKING! HUFF AND PUFF, FOR SURE! But I did make it 2 miles in 3o minutes, Shannon says "not bad, mom", ha ha! But it was great! The temp at that time wa about 72 degrees, very nice, with a light breeze, which is very unusual for Charleston, usually it is very windy here by the ocean!

The Scenes of Charleston

Day 3, this is Sue, hey everyone, I cannot begin to tell you all how much fun I have had, while being in Charleston with my Shannon Leigh and my granddoggy, Luther, "the sweet lab boy"! Charleston is just breathtaking everywhere you go here! We are catching up,Wednesday, I was extremely surprised, when I thought I was going to go walk the Ravenel Bridge with Shannon, BUT she had other plans! Here we drive up to where it says on the sign, HARBOUR TOURS. She said SURPRISE, we are about to take a boat out into the ocean, where you will see DOLPHINS and many other wonderful sights of Charleston from the beautiful Atlantic Ocean! On the tour we saw some of the beautiful mansions in the distance, as well as going out to see Fort Sumter! The dolphins were in full view, swimming alongside the front of the boat, the sight was totally awesome! There were 4 of them, they would surface frequently, then go back under the water.

Here are a few more pictures of the tour:
We ended the day, by meeting Shannon's good friend, Donna, and her mom Jean for dinner at "The Fig" restaurant. The food was delicious, Shannon and Donna treated us to this very elegant dinner! The atmosphere was very nice. Donna and her mom are originally from Massachuetts. They are very sweet people. Donna was one of the first people Shannon met in Charleston, and they have become the very best of friends. Donna is expecting a baby boy in May, and her husband is a dentist in downtown Charleston.
